Peer Navigator Job Description
Broad Scope and Function
The Peer Navigator role at Highline College is a dynamic opportunity for current students who excel academically and possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. As a Peer Navigator, you will be crucial in supporting fellow students by providing academic assistance, study tips, and guidance on navigating campus resources. This position is a vital link between the Academic Success Center and Student Advising, facilitating seamless communication and collaboration to enhance student success.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Student Support:
- Provide personalized assistance to students seeking academic support, including guidance on accessing tutoring services, study resources, and other campus resources.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for students navigating academic challenges and seeking guidance on course selection, study strategies, and time management.
- Liaison Role:
- Collaborate closely with the Academic Success Center and Student Advising to ensure support services and resources are aligned.
- Act as a liaison between students and relevant campus departments, advocating for student needs and facilitating referrals as necessary.
- Peer Mentoring:
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment by offering peer mentoring and guidance to students seeking academic assistance.
- Utilize your academic experiences and successes to inspire and motivate fellow students to achieve their academic goals.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and service referrals in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing student success and retention.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a 2.5 Cumulative GPA to be eligible for on-campus student employment.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at Highline College.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse student populations.
- Empathetic and approachable demeanor, with a passion for helping others succeed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Previous experience in peer mentoring, tutoring, or student leadership roles is preferred.
Reporting Structure:
The Peer Navigator will report directly to the Director of Academic Services, who will provide guidance, support, and supervision as needed.
